Institutional File Storage Services: EITS and Client Responsibilities
Summary
This article details EITS and Client Responsibilities for storage services provided on a cost recovery basis.
Body
Standard Institutional File Storage (Standard IFS)
EITS Responsibilities
Create and monitor the storage space requested by the client.
Setup and maintain the underlying infrastructure and security for the service.
Provide support and proactive communications to clients.
Normal Support will be provided during standard business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday, excluding University observed holidays and University closures.
Emergency Support will include of a maximum one-hour response time during emergencies or service outages between standard business hours.
Extended Support outside of standard business hours will be on a best effort response following the EITS on-call procedures.
Maintain and validate (quarterly) backups for data stored in this service.
Minimize the downtime of this critical service during business hours by performing service maintenance and patching outside of UGA’s standard business hours.
Provide reports on file share trending and capacity planning recommendations upon request.
Client Responsibilities
Provide EITS with a business contact for any billing changes or issues
Provide EITS with a technical contact for any service changes or issues
Inform EITS of any changes to business or technical contact information
The following uses are NOT supported on the Standard IFS service
Hosting personal data (non-University) including pictures
Hosting DMCA-protected files such as music or movies
Use of flat database files from the share to run applications
Publishing files on the web that use the file server as backend storage
Storing restricted information (SSN, HIPPA data, credit card data)

Client Responsibilities

The following uses are NOT supported on the Research IFS service
Hosting data unrelated to UGA research (i.e. administrative data)
Hosting personal data (non-University) including pictures
Hosting DMCA-protected files such as music or movies
Use of flat database files from the share to run applications
Publishing files on the web that use the file server as backend storage
Hosting of data being used as active shared data instead of archival data
